Abstract

In this paper, the behaviour of double quarter-elliptical corner cracksemanating from fastener holes is numerically analyzed by the boundary element method. The stress intensity factors along the crack front are calculated for different lengths anddepths of the crack. The effect of hole radius is also examined. The obtained results arecompared with those obtained with the finite element method by Lin & Smith and thosecalculated by the Newman & Raju’s equations.
