Crack Trajectories in Ductile Materials Under Unsymmetric Conditions: Theory and Numerical Simulation

Abstract
A 2D computational model of ductile fracture, in which arbitrary crackextension through the mesh is accommodated without mesh bias, is used to study ductilefracture near the weld line in welded aluminum plates. Comparisons of the calculatedtoughness behavior and crack trajectory are made with results found in the literature.
