Abstract
The size effect relation for single edge notched beam (SENB) specimens is proposed. The derivation
depends on the assumptions made with regard to process zone size as the load increases. This study
shows that the larger the specimen, the more reliable is the measured toughness value. The proposed
relation enables a more realistic approach for estimating correct fracture toughness in brittle materials.
