The other CTS models have the same mesh size and will not be shown here for simplification. This mesh has 168 nodes and 84 quadratic elements, 16 continuous in the main hole and 4 discontinuous on each surface crack. Figure 16: Initial mesh for modified CTS (CTS01) by Bemcracker2D program. Fig. 17 shows the crack path mesh obtained by the BC2D and Quebra2D programs, comparing the BEM and FEM results for the four modified CTS. The initial FEM mesh consists of about 1300 elements and 2300 nodes and, in the final crack propagation step, it has increased to about 2200 elements and 5500 nodes, while the BEM mesh increased from 84 to 142 elements and 168 to 284 nodes.
