Abstract

In this paper the influence of friction process in Mode II delamination tests was studied, especially when the compression of the two interfaces enhances the energy dissipation due to friction.
Several delamination tests of fatigue were carried out on E-glass/expoxy composite specimens in order to provide the necessary data to study the friction process. Numerical analyses were performed using a FEM opensource code (FEAP) in order to validate the experimental results. A frictional-cohesive model (Parrinello-Failla-Borino, 2009) was implemented in different routines and the FEM analisys has shown that the friction process is very important for evaluate the mechanisms of the Mode II energy dissipation.
