The purpose of this work is to define some methods for the prediction of grain security during its
operation life; so we have studied a grain without failure and one with a crack that proceeds from the
internal surface to the case. In the first configuration we have studied a three-dimensional grain with a
circular port while in the second we have a two-dimensional star shaped grain.
The methods used for these analyses are the maximum octahedral strain and the fracture toughness
respectively.
